详细介绍:
Here, Véronique Gens and Sandrine Piau assume the role of two of the best French opera singers of the 18th century: Madame Dugazon and Madame Saint-Huberty. These women truly were rivals in real life; the first sang in the Comédie-Italienne, the latter in the Académie Royale de Musique (now the Paris Opera). The difference in voice, style, and personality of these two illustrious musical figures has given rise to a highly innovative programme which sees revolutionary composer Gluck take a seat next to all those he inspired: Monsigny, Edelmann, Johann Christian Bach, Persuis, Cherubini, Sacchini, Grétry and Dalayrac. It’s a beautiful insight into what you might have seen and heard in Paris in the 1700s.
At the head of Le Concert de la Loge, which he conducts with vigour and sensitivity, Julien Chauvin achieves his dream of bringing together Véronique Gens and Sandrine Piau on the same album. The two singers have shared so much over the years—both on and off stage—and the pair have really revived French opera singing. It’s a pleasure (a rather humorous one at that) to hear them step into the shoes of these old rivals: Sandrine Piau playing tender, naïve and sensitive lovers, and Véronique interpreting tragedian and mythological heroines. This recording is a real treat, culminating in a duet from Johann Christian’s La Clemenza di Scipione where their two fantastic voices come together in the most beautiful way. © François Hudry/Qobuz
